Anion gap + delta-delta

Anion gap distinguishes high-AG metabolic acidosis (HAGMA — MUDPILES) from normal-AG (NAGMA — HARDUPS). Delta-delta detects mixed acid-base disorders.

Formula

AG = Na − (Cl + HCO3)
Normal 8-12 mEq/L
Corrected AG (low albumin) = AG + 2.5 × (4 − albumin)
Delta-delta = (AG − 12) / (24 − HCO3)
